The special Fretting test rig “BigFret” was developed and built by our colleague Mr. Buse in the course of his doctorate.
It enables the wear mechanism tribochemical reaction – also called fretting corrosion or tribooxidation – to be studied with high precision.
In contrast to existing model test equipment, flat contacts can also be reliably set and tested on the test stand. The drive train is extremely rigid, so that even movements in the micrometer range can be cleanly controlled and checked.
By default, two 10 mm x 8 mm platelets are used as test specimens, which can be easily made from any materials.
