Lubricants for rolling bearings under small swivel movements
The new Fafnir tester developed by KTM fulfills the requirements of ASTM D4170 “Standard Test Method for Fretting Wear Protection by Lubricating Greases”. In addition to the standard test bearings, tests can also be carried out with the bearing type 51206 known from the SNR-FEB2 test. Frequency, load and stroke can be variably adjusted.
The tester uses two special axial deep groove ball bearings, lubricated with the lubricant to be tested, and oscillates at an angle of 12° at a frequency of 30.0 Hz under a constant load of 2450 N (550 lbf) for 22 hours at room temperature.
The wear is determined by measuring the mass loss of the bearing races.
