The BAADER aging test is used to determine the aging resistance of lubricating, hydraulic and insulator oils.
At an oil temperature of 95°C or 110°C, a wire helix made of copper is moved translationally in the vertical direction in the oil. The copper coil serves here as a catalyst and thus accelerates aging. The usual test duration is 3 days or 140 h. The evaluation is carried out by determining the saponification number and by visual inspection (changes in the oil and the filament).
