The universal rheometer is used to measure rheological parameters, such as the (apparent) dynamic viscosity of Newtonian and non-Newtonian substances as a function of shear rate and temperature.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The substance to be measured is either in an annular gap between two coaxial cylinders or in a (wedge) gap between a plate and a cone\/plate. The outer cylinder or plate is stationary while the inner cylinder or cone\/plate is driven. The shear rate can be adjusted very precisely. It evokes a flow resistance in the substance, which is a measure of the dynamic viscosity and is recorded by a high-precision torque transducer. Rotational viscometers can also be used for medium- to high-viscosity (> 3 m Pa*s) and structurally viscous substances.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n\n
The devices available at the KTM are PC-controlled and allow the parameters shear rate and temperature to be changed dynamically during the test run.
