Since our founding in 1993, we have combined application-oriented research and development with the education of students. In addition to lectures, students are given the opportunity to “get a taste” of a research institute at an early stage. This can be in the context of the student research project or as a research assistant. If interested, there is the possibility to do interesting final theses often in cooperation with industry or in research projects. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of tribology, they thus learn to recognize and apply the significance of the subjects taught in a rather isolated manner in the theoretical lower view.<\/p>\n

We have first-class contacts to the regional and national industry. In the areas of research and teaching, there is close contact with numerous companies in order to, on the one hand, make the training modern and practice-oriented and, on the other hand, to orient the research to the problems of practice. <\/p>\n

The main focus of the R&D projects is applied research, i.e. the questions result directly from concrete problems of the economy. In this way, research and teaching are optimally linked and both sides benefit from the cooperation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

All activities are combined under the umbrella term “Mannheim Tribology Competence Center (KTM)”. The following organizational chart shows the different organizational units and the wide-ranging network behind the KTM brand name.<\/p>\n

With currently 18 employees and over 50 different tribological test rigs as well as the associated measurement technology and analytics, the Tribology Competence Center is one of the leading institutes in this field.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
